Birch Description

Free metadata search file system for Mac OS X Birch is a metadata search file system for Mac OS X. Birch represents Spotlight metadata queries as directories, and the files within directories are matches to that query.Birch was created as a project for the graduate course CS 221, Advanced Operating Systems.Notes:· The portmapper needs to be running. Start it with `sudo launchctl start com.apple.portmap' from a shell.· This won't work if you're already running an NFS server on your machine.· Some things don't quite work that great. It's an experimental file system, and it *shouldn't* crash your computer (at least, not anymore).· You may want to restart Finder after playing with Birch, because something strange is going on with mounted file systems, so even after Birch is unmounted, disk will still appear to be mounted. Just `killall Finder'.· Unmount the file system with `umount localhost:/Birch'.
