Desktops Description

Desktops is a versatile Mac OS X application which provides a refreshing way of managing your files and folders on multiple desktops. In essence, the app enables you to create desktops by dragging and dropping a folder onto the its left sidebar (optionally, use the New Desktop item from the File menu). Each folder can be differently customized and managed. Also, switching between desktop is really simple; just click on the desktop you want to access via the right sidebar. Moreover, Desktops can be viewed in a window, the desktop background or from a menu bar panel. On the top of the main window, there is a favorites bar to which you can add any folder or file you want to quickly access with just a click; to add items, simply drag and drop them to the bar. Besides allowing you to create multiple desktops, the app comes with a bunch of great ways to organize files/folders: stacked folders, groups, smart groups and containers. Stacked folders act like simple folders that don’t open in a new window, but displays its contents in a grid. Furthermore, groups are places where you can store simple folders and all types of files. When you click on them, the items are displayed circularly around the groups. The smart groups, however, can automatically store certain files of user-defined type or file, such as images, documents, folders and more. Smart folders can also automatically store files which contain a certain phrase in its name. As for the containers, they are places where you can organize files / folders and which displays them as a list. The difference between a container and a folder is that the former lists the names of all items included and provides one-click access to them, while the latter display its files only afters clicking on the folder icon. To conclude, Desktops can definitely help you better manage the contents of your Mac, if you usually work with numerous files. It offers a reliable multi-desktop solution, several view modes and makes it simple to organize files / folders into smart folders, groups and containers.
