Each time you take a photo with your phone or with a camera, the file will retain a lot of metadata information that can be accessed with a simple Exif viewing application. The Exif standard provides support for embedding geolocation information and other technical data, such as the date and time when you captured the image, your camera model, the focal length, the lens used, the aperture, the orientation, the flash firing status, the shooting mode and more. EXIFPurge is a small Mac OS X utility that will identify the Exif metadata embedded in the image files and quickly removes the information. Since it can deal with multiple files at the same time, the entire process is quite fast. Working with EXIFPurge is fairly intuitive: you can add images to the processing list by using the “Select Images” button placed in the top area of the main window or you can simply drag and drop them on top of the main window. To remove a file, you must press the delete button placed next to the selection button. Make sure you specify the output location for the processed file and then press the “Purge Exif Info” button from the bottom of the main window. During our tests we have noticed that EXIFPurge works properly on Mac OS X 10.6, but will display errors when trying to clean files on Mac OS X Mavericks. To sum up, EXIFPurge can prove to be very useful if your are running the Snow Leopard operating system and you want to remove the personal metadata embedded in your image files via the Exif standard.
