REaCTOR: Heat Pumps Description

Heat pumps is an Open Educational Resource created by FusedWorks - http://www.jisc.ac.uk/ - funded project ‘Renewable, Environmental and Construction Technology Open Resource – REaCTOR, this application has been created alongside 7 others: * Renewable comparison * Solar thermal * Photovoltaics * Heat pumps * Rainwater harvesting * Greywater re-use * Biomass * Wind energy The resources are available on stand-alone platforms and on mobile devices. Each resource is free to use and can be used as teaching and learning support material. The Heat Pumps resource introduces heat pumps technology whereby heat from air, ground or water is used to heat water and space in a domestic setting. The resource includes an introduction to the principles behind heat pumps and refrigeration technology. Users can examine the heat pump equipment in a typical domestic arrangement, using detailed, fully-interactive 3D models of the two types of heat pumps (air source and ground source), heat collectors and exchangers, hot water cylinder, and other elements. Energy flow through the system is presented. The integration of the system into the domestic situation is visualised. Basics of physical installation are presented. Resource based on reference materials gathered in co-operation with educational and commercial sectors in UK (National Skills Academy Environmental Technologies, EU Skills, HE Academy Discipline Lead, Leeds College of Building and many others). User manual for the application is available at the project website under the section "Resources". Read more about the project at http://www.reactor.fusedworks.com
