ASEMCA: Talking Anti-Spam E-Mail Checker and Autoresponder Description
ASEMCA: Anti-Spam E-Mail Checker and Autoresponder is a colourful, stand-alone, talking e-mail checker with Bayesian and non-Bayesian filters as well as an auto-responder for the Windows 98 to Windows XP operating system. It displays messages in user-defined text and background colours and can be installed and run on a computer without administrative privilege. ASEMCA operates on the following logic or philosophy: (a) If you are sure it is junk mail, delete it; (b) If you are sure it is good mail (i.e. not junk mail), accept it; (c) If you are (sure you are) not sure it is good mail or junk mail, reject it (i.e bounce, challenge or, preferably, auto-reply to it). ASEMCA assumes that junk mail or "spam" evolves in many ways and originates from many places including virus-infected computers of friends. Thus, the best way of detecting and reducing the junk mail we receive is to use a variety of techniques including (a) a smart or Bayesian filter, (b) a list of allowed terms or passwords, (c) a list of disallowed terms or junk mail characteristics, and (d) an autoresponder for ambiguous or difficult-to-characterize mail.
