ColourControls Description

ColourControls - Scan images and generate real-time MIDI messages depending on the colours that are read by the the scanner. Examples for usage: doing arrangement scores by drawing lines with different colours on a paper that is scanned and used in ColourControls (this allows for a more unquantized and immediate way of working with arrangements, or automation of parts that you might otherwise be controlling live), hear what a photo "sounds like". In the current state, ColourControls will let the user load one or more images and create a set of colour controls. Each control has a base colour and a goal colour, a set type of MIDI message (currently only control messages are sent), and a MIDI device. When you start the sweep (which is currently a horizontal sweep from top to bottom) of the picture, the controls that are connected to that picture will start to react to the pixels that are along the sweep line. Several ways to read the colours are planned, but currently the maximum value of each colour along the line is converted to a control message value. For each pixel colour, its position along a line in colour space (a cube with axes for red, green and blue respectively) is decided, so that if it is on the line a value is calculated, 127 if it's on the goal colour, 0 if it's on the base colour. Some slack is allowed close to the goal colour, making the space with control values a fuzzy cone shape To be able to set colours accurately, you can sample values directly from the loaded image. This also makes ColourControls a bit more useful to those who are colour blind. Requirements: ■ requires Java 1.5
