GearTrain Description
GearTrain allows you to experiment the angular velocity of the final driven gear in a gear chain..The user enters the revolutions per minute and driection of the first driver gear along with information about the number of teeth of each gear in the series. GearTrain will output the RPM and direction of the final driven gear in the gear train. The program can also calculate the linear velocity using a variety fo metric and standard units. It was designed as a tool for educators and students wishing to learn or check calculations for a gear chain in a Technology Education or Robotics program. The standard input requires that you know the number of teeth of each gear. However, the user may alternatively enter the diameters of the gear and the teeth per inch by clicking on the disclosure triangle labeled ÒGears per inch calculation. The calculation for gears per inch will send the number of teeth up to the editfield so it may then be added to the table. The program can export the gear chains and results to a text file or print the results. If you make a mistake adding gears to the table, you can undo all the way back to the beginning of the list.
