Hardware Locality Description
Hardware Locality (hwloc) is a reliable package designed to provide a portable abstraction (across OS, versions, architectures, etc) of the hierarchical topology of modern architectures. This includes NUMA memory nodes, sockets, shared caches, cores and simultaneous multithreading. It also gathers various system attributes such as cache and memory information. It primarily aims at helping applications with gathering information about modern computing hardware so as to exploit it accordingly and efficiently. Hardware Locality primarily aims at helping high-performance computing (HPC) applications, but is also applicable to any project seeking to exploit code and/or data locality on modern computing platforms.
