Tarr Chronicles Description

Tarr Chronicles is a simulation of first person space combat. It was developed by Quazar Studio and published by Akella, Paradox Interactive, and cdv Software in September 2007. The storyline is pretty common (and sounds a lot like Battlestar Galactica): a huge Battlecruiser fighting for the salvation of the human race, on its way back home. You are a part of an elite unit of fighters, and during 9 missions you have to fight enemy ships, investigate anomalies, or scout various places. The story told through mission briefings and journals requires a lot of focus, in order to understand why you do what you do. Of course you can as well go shooting, without bothering to find why, as long as you stick with the objectives. Missions are pretty long, divided into multiple stages, with checkpoints for ammo resupplying and ship repair. You cannot follow multiple objectives at once, the game is scripted to allow only one at a time. This is limiting a lot the gameplay making it very linear and predictable. A bit of role playing was added to the game, allowing you to gain more power, so you can get better ships and weapons. Graphics are well done, explosions and weapons effects are realistic and the ships design is nice. Overall this is an average game with nothing out of the ordinary. It deserves to be played for the space fights and graphics. Cristian Ionescu Editor rating:
