Webtop Description

The Webtop is a web-based email system with numerous PIM functions built into it. There is an important distinction between the Webtop and a "regular" email client. Being a web-based email client, the Webtop acts as a information management server - it is always on, always running, and always managing your information whether your are logged in or not. Here are a few examples of why the Webtop has an advantage over traditional email clients: Automated reminders are one example of this advantage. You schedule a reminder to be sent to one or many email addresses at a specific date and time and, as long as the Webtop is up and running, it will be sent without any additional work. Receiving emails with large attachments is done in the background and does not affect, or slow down, your usage of the webtop. As soon as the entire email is downloaded, it will appear for you to view. If email filters are setup, they are process as soon as the Webtop receives the email - not just when you log in and received them. This has the added advantage of being able to easily create autoresponders when you are away. The Webtop was written in Java and, hence, can run on any system that has a JVM (which is basically all of them) Here is the complete feature list available broken out by service: GENERAL SYSTEM FEATURES Professionally designed user interface Support for both Internet Explorer and Mozilla browsers SSL Protection when using the embedded web server Compressed HTTP response (using zip or gzip) to speed up response times on slower internet connections Customizable authentication (integrate with your LDAP or single sign-on system) Use the embedded web server and servlet engine or integrate with a 3rd party server Use the embedded Relational database or integrate with a 3rd party database (MySQL or Oracle are supported)
